Plot Summary: Global Issues for Students: Human Rights is part of a series that deals with global issues including genocide, economics, the environment, science and technology and Latin America. Human Rights touches on the UN Declaration for Human Rights and how many countries are not in compliance. As an example, one of the UN Human Rights is Freedom from Slavery. Slavery is still prevalent throughout the world. Footage is shown of orphans in West Africa doing backbreaking labor.
Critical Evaluation: This DVD is a great introduction to human rights. It is only 23 minutes long but touches on major issues, especially in regard to the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights initiative and how many countries are not complying. It is a good introductory video and will hold students' attention.
